We would like to familiarize our readers with information about registering to vote in New Jersey and your Motor Vehicle Commission Agency, as provided by the State of New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC).

If you are eligible to vote in New Jersey, you may register to vote at any  Motor Vehicle Agency while applying for/renewing a license or non-driver identification card. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Agency will report the information to the New Jersey Division of Elections.

Please note that voter registration deadline is 21 days before an election.

If you will not be conducting a license or non-driver identification card transaction and wish to register to vote or change your address with the Division of Elections please visit: www.njelections.org, or call 1-877-NJVOTER (1-877-658-6837)

Update your voting address. If you have just changed your address with New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission , you will receive a New Jersey Voter Registration Application with your change of address stickers. If you have not already reported your change of address to the New Jersey Division of Elections as applicable, you may mail the form directly to the New Jersey Division of Elections, PO Box 304, Trenton, New Jersey 08625-9983.

If you need a Voter Registration form and have not received one in the mail or further information is needed, visit www.njelections.org.

Your County Commissioner of Registration will notify you if your application is accepted. If it is not accepted, you will be notified on how to complete and/or correct the application.

Address changes reported online (or via mail or telephone) with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission are forwarded to the New Jersey Division of Elections.

If you wish to get a license or non-driver identification card displaying your new address, you must visit a Motor Vehicle Commission Agency. You will have to pass 6 point ID Verification and pay a fee. If registering to vote or changing your address for voting purposes, you will receive a short form at the Agency which will be collected with your license or ID application form.

If you are already registered to vote at your former address but would like your new address reported to the New Jersey Division of Elections, be sure to advise the clerk to check “Yes” when asked if you would like to register to vote.

According to The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission account of transactions, between March 1, 2008 and September 1, 2008, 42,487 voter registrations have been transmitted by the Motor Vehicle Commission (but does not include Web or non-agency address changes).

For more information about online service and other services of the Motor Vehicle Commission, go to www.state.nj.us/mvc
